Chartreus fresh new color to enliven any room any accessory

Chartreus fresh new color to enliven any room any accessory

In the winter of 1953, we moved into our brand new ranch style home on the southwest side of Chicago. True, I was only 4 at the time, but even then, color had an impressive effect on my just sprouting creative little mind. Our brick, wood frame trimmed house was painted chartreuse. On a block of boring neutrals, with ner a tree, bush or flower in sight, my new home beckoned like a picturesque dream.

Mavis (My Mom .... who you will definitely get to know) .... always had an eye for distinction.

While some might have thought this shade choice a bit startling in this particular urban setting, Mavis introduced a canvas of subtle Impressionism that not only spoke of the times, the 1950's, but the possibilities of creating a mood, a focal point and most importantly, a palette 🎨 of color that vividly enriched and enticed the senses.

Coupled with the soft powder pink of the dramatic Victralight tiles in the bath, my mind settled into a dreamy atmosphere of Monet-like gentleness
and charm.

Think of chartreuse. Consider its amazing ability to engage a room with a pleasing, ethereal quality that transcends not only decades, but centuries of artistic verve! Introduce it with a painting, canvas, chair cover, throw, pillow or curtain .... accentuate with soft pastel pink and make room for scores of compliments!

Mavis and Claude (Monet!) .... highly recommend it!

A Little High Tea

A Little High Tea

WHAT STARTED OUT AS SIPS OF LIPTON from my mothers lovely china tea pot, on cool chilly nights while watching old movies, gradually grew into a Tea Obsession.

Throughout my life, I have associated some of my best friends and fondest memories with sharing a cup of tea. Collections of fine bone china tea cups and saucers began, mostly because of my Mom. Born near Charleston, South Carolina, the heart of the gracious Old South, beautiful delicate tea cups were viewed as a must in any ladies cupboard. From afar, (Mavis Juanita did not grow up with a silver spoon in her, nor neither of her seven siblings!) mouth.

Miss Juanita honed her love for all things Lovely and Elegant in the parlor of Mrs. Ponteaux's gracious home -- which influenced her life forevermore.

Almost 75 years later, my mother saw her wildest dream come true, when our small family opened up a stunning Bed and Breakfast, which served an award winning High Tea to Sunday Afternoon guests. Chester Manor .... named for my father, but truly, owned in every way, by Mavis Juanita.

Miss you more than you'll ever know, Mom.
